❗️Important update from United Nurses of Alberta’s Negotiations Committee. Please share with UNA members.
March 22, 2024
▶ Met with the Employers March 19 and 20, 2024. The UNA Committee met March 21 and 22 to review all proposals and consider future steps.
▶ Continued non-monetary discussions. Employers remain focused on ability to hire external candidates over internal candidates, limit internal movement and increase the percentage of full-time workers to achieve “stability”.
▶ UNA proposed an interim extension of Rural Capacity Investment Fund (RCIF) which is to expire March 30, 2024 but Employers rejected UNA’s proposal.
▶ On March 21, 2024 the Minister of Health, Adriana LaGrange announced changes to Continuing Care will occur in the fall of 2024, but that changes to Mental Health & Addictions will proceed this spring. AHS was unable to provide any clarification or information about pending changes/restructuring.
▶ Next Bargaining dates are April 2, 3, and 4, 2024. Additional dates set for May 6,7 and 8, 2024 (to replace cancelled dates of March 5, 6 and 7).
UPCOMING PUBLIC MEETINGS ON THE CANADA PENSION PLAN
The Canada Pension Investment Board (CPPIB) holds regular meetings across the country (usually 1 in each province at least every 2 years) to provide information and take questions from Canadians about their pension plan investments.
This year's events in Alberta are getting far more attention than usual, given the provincial government's proposal to take all Albertans out of the Canada Pension Plan.
These CPPIB public events are a chance for workers and retirees to get accurate information about their CPP savings directly from experts who manage the funds on their behalf.
Unfortunately, far right extremist group of activists who call themselves "Project Confederation" are trying to derail the meetings to advance their own agenda. They claim to be responsible for pushing Danielle Smith to propose the creation of a separate pension plan that would be smaller, riskier, and open to political takeover by the provincial government of day.
Countless Albertans are telling us they've had enough of misinformation and are tired of groups like "Project Confederation" and "Take Back Alberta" stirring up controversy and pushing untrue conspiracy theory-style narratives.
It's important that all Albertans are able to get reliable information about their CPP savings. We encourage you to attend one of these events if you're in one of the two locations. If you can't attend, we suggest sharing the events with anyone you know who lives in the area who may have questions about their CPP.
